Your sexuality and related health issues

And what if making love was good for your heart?

You don’t smoke, you don’t drink, you eat a balanced diet and you exercise...very good! Your healthy lifestyle is playing a part in preventing a heart attack or a stroke. But did you know that making love at least three or four times a week is even better!

You’re a ‘pro’ at squash, jogging and endurance sport...no problem; all this exercise is boosting your cardiovascular health by toning your heart and your blood vessels. But what if, by contrast, you don’t do any regular sport but you’re rather active in bed? Well, carry on!

Your sexual exploits can have the same positive effect as if you were doing an actual endurance sport. By making love at least three or four times a week, in addition to a healthy lifestyle, you could be cutting your risk of heart attack or stroke by half!

Make love… and peace with your heart

In Wales, Professor Shah Ebrahim studied 2,400 men living in the town of Caerphilly. This study aimed to show the existing relationship between doing some regular physical exercise and preventing cardiovascular illnesses.

The medical team gave out a questionnaire to participants who didn’t have any heart problems when the study started and then looked at them again 10 years later to see how many had suffered heart attacks or serious strokes.

The questionnaire also asked about how often they had sexual intercourse per week. The results showed that men who had at least three orgasms a week over a total of ten years were also those who were twice as less at risk of heart attack or stroke. According to Professor Ebrahim, “Even mild to moderate levels of physical activity are likely to have some cardiovascular protective effect”.

And guess what, sex qualifies! Therefore, gentlemen, make love as often as you wish. It appears that lovemaking is an excellent way to naturally prevent heart problems.

Make love… with care

It should be noted that while strenuous exercise following a heart attack is not recommended, mild to moderate exercise can be beneficial, so a regular, gentle and satisfying round of lovemaking could be just the ticket.

Oh and by the way, if you are in good general health, you have more to fear from sexually transmitted diseases than a heart attack. So don’t forget your condom. Protect yourself and enjoy!
