Sex and saving the planet

Ecological awareness is everywhere, so it seems totally natural that sex is on the environmental agenda too. Make love, yes, but not to the detriment of the planet!

Eco warriors are working sexuality for a good cause, converting to organic condoms and embracing sex that helps protect the environment. Sex is going green like everything else...

Sexy environmental awareness

Who said ecologists were austere and rather straight-laced types, who don’t know how to have fun? Nowadays, we can all contribute to saving the planet by making love, an original way of combining the useful with the highly pleasurable.

At the forefront of this eco-sexuality movement are the “F**k for Forest”, an eco-warrior association begun in Norway, and which launched a rather hot website in order to raise money for preserving Amazon rainforests. According to its creators, Leona and Tommy, 80% of the profits (subscription costs from 12£ upwards) go straight to the relevant organisations.

An adult film actress who has gone green, Dutch, French-speaking Zara Whites, has her own blog about protecting the environment and campaigns on behalf of the association PETA, dedicated to the protection of animals. She doesn’t hesitate to make personal sacrifices for a good cause, stripping off in front of an agricultural office in order to plead for the things that are close to her heart. We don’t know if her audience was convinced or not, but they all seemed to be having a good time...

Sexing up your ecological awareness

If the sex “professionals” are persuaded, then it seems that sex and ecology really do go together. Most ordinary couples appreciate that their partner shares their passions, so passionate sex and passionate ecology it is! In the United States, dating sites have flooded the market such Green Passions and Earth Wise Singles, which are already allowing singles interested in protecting the environment to get together.

Once the first few meetings are over, it will be time to get on to more serious matters, so here’s some tips to green your love making:

  • Get in on in between organic cotton sheets;
  • Turn out the lights to reduce your carbon footprint, as suggested in the eco sex guide published by Greenpeace;
  • Take a roll in the hay to get naturally warm without having to turn on the heating;
  • Take a shower together and reduce your water consumption while steaming up sexual pleasure;
  • Organic produce, such as avocados, saffron and ginger are said to have aphrodisiac properties, so have a healthy snack and recharge your batteries in between love making sessions.See Aphrodisiacs: alternative sexual medicine?

Environmentally respectful sex accessories

As for accessories, manufacturers can spot a good thing when they see it and have started to cash in on the green trend. You can hold of rechargeable vibrators in specialist shops (Leo or Fun Factory) or others that function on solar power (California Exotic Novelties’ Solar Sensation Vibe).

But maybe you prefer to return your old model, which will be recycled and will allow you to buy a new one at a cheaper price (the Rabbit, or the Love Honey). Opt for a silicon model as a matter of preference, as this material, unlike plastic, doesn’t contain phthalates, which are now proven to disrupt the hormonal system.

When it comes to clothing, organic lingerie remains very demure, despite some slightly more daring options like G-strings made from Canadian forest fibres from available at g=9.8.

Those who wish to launch into more unusual sex games may prefer natural rubber bits and pieces. When it comes to contraception, go for natural latex (made by Kessel or Condomi for example) rather than polyurethane condoms.

Finally for massages, there’s a range of 100% natural oils, available in a myriad of fragrances. Maybe you’ll be seduced by a sensual massage oil infused with aloe, cocoa and goji from Intimate Organics.

Need a lubricant? Organic to the rescue! All you need is a honey flavouring, warming cinnamon bark extract Melt lubricant for Intimate Organics. And if you want to have a go making your own lubricant at home, using natural egg whites or yoghurt.

In sticking to your environmental principles, you can get ethical satisfaction at the same time as sexual pleasure... it’s all good, and green!
