A lesson in seduction: great lingerie
In 1958 Claude Pasquier the founder of the world-renowned French lingerie brand Aubade, launched the fashion for patterns and colour diversity in female underwear, for which we owe all him a debt of great gratitude. So we asked Aurélie Couvret, Aubade’s communication manager, to share her insights on the seductive powers of lingerie.

Women seldom realise how grateful they should be for the times they live in. Not so long ago, lingerie was still a byword for extreme constraint and discomfort. Not until the 60s were women finally allowed the opportunity to set their lovers on fire with just a few bits of strategic cloth covering their skin – lingerie.
Seduction starts with you
According to Aurélie Couvret, “When a woman wears sensual lingerie, she does so to feel beautiful.” Buying lingerie, which is generally only seen by the woman and her lover, is a very personal thing. So be daring and try everything that takes your (or his) fancy. However, to be really seductive, you need to feel good about what you’re wearing. For instance, thongs reach their full potential on the sole condition that you truly enjoy wearing them. The signal they convey about your erotic self gets across only if it matches your own relationship to seduction and your body image.
To put it simply, you will be all sensuality wearing transparent tulle undergarments if it fits your nature, while others will pursue a more sophisticated approach with femme-fatale-style fishnet stockings. Take your time in the changing room to find your style and feel free to seek advice if necessary. And once you’ve made your choice, then you’ll need to invent a pretext for wearing your new underwear.
Aurélie goes on to say that, “There are two types of women, regular buyers who remain faithful to certain brands, and occasional buyers who purchase something on an impulse, if they really fall a particular piece.” In or out of bed, what matters is that you are ready to get his blood boiling with desire.
Seduction straight between his eyes
Turning on the “fantasy” button in your man isn’t an automatic or improvised thing, and you’ll want to go for things that have been proven to work. You may have noticed him gawking at certain ads or he may have whinged on occasion that you never buy red underwear. So take note and try to purchase things that he will really enjoy seeing you in. “Lace, embroidery, corsets or suspenders should put a spark in his eyes” says Aurélie. More sophisticated lingerie connoisseurs will perhaps fancy more elaborate pieces, satin and highly sexy bras or corsets.
Neither savage cavemen, bonking bunnies, nor overheated boys, men are actually rather sensitive beings when it comes to lingerie. And between us, we might have found men’s soft spot; the thing that brings out the insatiable animal in him… and that is very plunging bras that don’t cover much more than the tip of the breast. So sexy!
Channeling your inner sex bomb
Some will say that bringing out your inner sex bomb is easier said than done, and they’re probably right. If you want your lingerie to make you look sexy, then read the following couple of tips and the mistakes to avoid.
“It all depends on your type of body,” Aurélie explains. Those with ample breasts and generous curves might want to wear balcony bras, while slighter women will no doubt opt for plunge bras, which craftily push the breasts closer together, making them more voluptuous.
Sensually emphasizing your bottom is easy! If yours is a bit flat, choose sexy lacy boxers to give increased form and avoid thongs, which could give a flat look. Women with a rounded bottom will find thongs the best as they cover only the top of the hips and bare the best of a curvy bottom. “The trick is to get the right size otherwise you risk getting either a squashed-in look or having the lingerie badly filled if it’s too big. You may think that corsets or fishnet stockings are reserved for slender women, but this isn’t true. It’s only a question of attitude.” So if you’ve got the attitude, then flaunt it!
Aubade lingerie seduction lessons
- Lesson 66: Provoke his passion. Now is the time to turn words into deeds, take action and transcend your own limits. Large-breasted women should emphasize their bosom with balcony bras, while others might prefer to use thongs, tulles and transparent undergarments to sensuously bare their skin for their lover to feast his eyes on.
- Lesson 69: Make him feel like a prince. Stop wondering if you look amazing, irresistible or sensual, because you do in his eyes. If you still have doubts, clip on a gorgeous corset and feel the rush of sensual energy. Your attire should entertain his wildest fantasies and be an occasion for wild lovemaking, especially if you and your man are unaccustomed to it.
- Lesson 72: Flirt with indecency. Don’t underestimate the effect of a bare bottom on a man. Thongs give you a more saucy air than regular panties. If you don’t believe this, try one of those G-strings with a small knot on top and see your lover’s reaction.
- Lesson 89: Make him dizzy. Everyone recognises the sexual power of stockings and fishnets. This is probably because of the sense of availability they evoke, being tantalizingly concealed underneath clothes. If you want your man fully turned on, work his nerves and patience. Unclip your stockings slowly and roll them down along your legs as sensuously as you can.
- Lesson 94: Dare to wear red. Red lipstick, red lingerie… The colour red is often associated with uber femininity in the male psyche. There is no reason not to wear red, especially as it looks great with all complexions, fair and dark.
